Default tranny q's





ok so ive been told by 3 people my synchro in 3rd gear is bad, i just recently pain $60 for tranny service and treatment... didnt help it

do i buy a new tranny or rebuild this one

and does anyone have a ballpark estimate i would be spending

i would get a tranny from a junk yard ......definately NOT a new tranny .
reman tranny could be a possibility look in the net and compare prices and warranty
overhauling it , is another choise that you can make but if a shop gets in there , they might want to replace other syncros as well, bearings ,, and it would be a smart thing to do once tranny is all apart , but that could cost you more money than getting a used or reman tranny .... Unless you just tell them to replace the 3rd gear syncro .but they might not want to do just that ,,

so .. First choise .. used tranny ,, price range 400-500 dollars ... labor 5-6 hrs ,, depending on their hourly rate you can figure what labor will be ..
also while apart if clutch is less than 40% , i would replace the clutch set, resurface the flywheel and replace the rear main seal .

If you live close to Indy,I can rebuild it.That's what I do for a living.
