Transmission Stuck in 5th Gear

Hello All
I finally got around to pulling the tranny apart. I have the H2U5 model. I am stuck on pulling the c-clip apart. When I do that the countershaft will not fall. Do anyone have an idea why the countershaft will not fall when I open the clip. Please assist. I am positive that I have a broken shift fork. I just want to make sure. Thanks.
