Default trouble w 1st gear after new tranny & clutch

Hi,

I have an older accord (1988) lx-i. It has fuel injection.

I've had the tranny redone a few times and just got a new clutch for the first time I think in the car's 20 year history.

I am now having trouble getting the car into first gear when I am stopped. I have to really push hard on the shifter.

Does anyone know if this is just a clutch adjustment thing ?

Thanks,

Geo

It's a clutch dragging thing. Is that a cable clutch? If so, you want to shorten the cable.

With a hydraulic clutch, it's self-adjusting so maybe go thru the adjustment procedure for the height of the clutch pedal off the floor.

ooops...you don't want to shorten that cable.
the cable should have 1/8-1/4" slack down on the front of the trans where the clutch arm is. This keeps the throw out bearing from dragging all the time.
The people that installed the clutch should BE SURE they put 10w30 oil back in the trans. NOT 80w90 gear oil.
If they didn't refill the trans. you are low on fluid by the amount that drizzled out when the inner joint was popped out of the differential.

Please Define "had the tranny REDONE a few times" ? bearings?? shift forks??? synchros????

Sorry, it's been awhile since I had a cable clutch...

I was thinking that IF the cable was too loose, that would put the friction point too close to the floor. Then the pedal hits the floor but the clutch is still dragging a bit.

Correct cable adjustment & correct pedal height is what I had intended.
