I've heard set the valves to the middle of the gap clearance range. Also read set the exhaust valves to the loose side of the gap range as the exhaust valves tend to tighten over time.

Vehicle bought recently has 246k miles. Have extensive records but may never have valves checked or adjusted. Figure its due for a valve adjustment, but some say not needed except when engine is noisy. I'd always understood that tight valves are not noisy.

My plan is to check the gap and leave any valve that are within gap spec alone.

I think all the valves will tighten over time due to normal wear, so set the gap within range using your feeler gauge.

Also check the gap before you adjust to get an idea of where you are starting. My TSX has basically the same engine and all the valves were tighter than spec when I did my first service at ~100K miles.
