Weird problem
I have a 1997 honda accord 4cy lx auto. Going down the interstate in overdrive-d4- It fells as if im driving over rough road under light accel around 60 mph. Add more throttle and it goes away, let off and if fells rough again. I can fell it in the pedal, its pretty hard. It will not do it in d3 or 1st or 2nd. Axels? I checked em and they look good. Even jacked car up and felt for play or busted boot. What do you guys think?

RE: Weird problem
I agree w/ 97hunda.
Has D4 light or Check Engine Light been flashing at any time?
Symptoms suggest the lockup solenoids are "hunting" in/out. I would check for any TCU codes by shorting service check connector, turn keyswitch to ON, and the D4 light flashes deliver the code; long flashes for 10's digit and short flashes for units digit (F-ffff = 14). W/ a 97 you can also access the Pcodes w/ a OBD2 scanner. Autozone will usually do this no charge.
If no codes, the problem may be hydraulic. New Honda ATF and a new trans inlet screen may help in this case.
good luck

RE: Weird problem
To see if the poor drivability problem is related to solenoids, disconnect the solenoids by disconnecting the connector to the solenoids. They are located near the trans dipstick, a pair of cylinders ~ 1" diameter by 2" height on a triangular base w/ 3 bolts holding them down. Disconnecting will cause the Check Engine Light to come on, but should cure the rough shifting,...if it's the solenoids going on/off causing the problem.
You can reset the CEL by removing the BackUp fuse in the underhood fuse box for 15 secs. You may lose any presets on your radio.
I would also suggest manually checking for TCU codes. The 97 Hondas had dual modes, both OBD1 and OBD2. Short the blue 2-wire, service check connector under the glove box w/ a jumper wire, turn keyswitch to On, and watch the D4 light for flashes, 10's digit is long flash and units digit is short flash (F-ffff=14). It may be possible for an OBD1 code to be presented w/o an OBD2 code.
Good Luck
