Default What oil seals to replace with timing belt on 02 4-cyl?

I'm going to have my indy change out the timing belt, water pump and valve cover gasket and was wondering what seals to also change since everything will be accessible during this time. All my seals are 11+ yrs old and I know the timing seal is leaking a bit. After perusing Rock Auto, it seems the major seals are camshaft, balance shaft, timing and crankshaft. I know the front crankshaft seal should be easy to get to when changing the belts but what about the rear near the tranny? The Aisin kit I'm planning on getting has the tensioner + idler bearings w/springs which is nice.

Suggest you only replace those seals that are leaking. The seals are not preventitive maintenance items in shop manual. It is easy to create a leak (scratch sealing surfaces, poor installation, etc) where none exists. Some may disagree w/ this position, and ultimately it's your call.

Engine crankshaft seal at transmission is not accessible w/o removing transmission.

good luck

And buy OEM seal(s). A few bucks more but much better.

I would consider what your indy mechanic charges to change the unleaking seals and their skill level.
