I have the cheaper AEM with the bypass...I was sooo worried about the hydrolock when I got it, but after all...it's useless...it rains and snows a lot in Mass, and I never even worry about Submerizing the CAI...
But one thing I like about having bypass is that you can switch from CAI to short ram back and forth very easily.
Simply take off the bypass and leave the short part of thepipe which attaches to the throttle body then put the filter directly where the bypass used to be. so I use short ram system for the winter and go back to CAI when it gets warm...
sorry, my english isn't good enough to explain well and have you guys understand...
i'll attach pictures if you want me to...
btw I personally like the short ram better than CAI cuz it's a lot easier to clean the filter (notall but most ofcars...)...it's only a few HP gain, you don't really feel it, but the sound make you feel like it's faster...short ram sounds the same on mine...maybe not on others...
I'd say go cheaper with good filter...unless you are trying to drive around with your hood off...unless you have them side by side, ebay stuff will still sound great almost as V2 does...

Huh ..... no headers?!? What does that have to do with anything? If you meant #28 regarding hydrolocking at 14" above the ground, ok.

BTW, the bypass can only do bad things ...... like get stuck open allowing unfiltered air into the engine or shredding and getting foam stuck in you intake manifold. I looked at them, did research and decided that I don't want it.

shortram->click

I didn't think bypass would give that much trouble unless they are really really old...but I do see mine is getting kinda chipped off...mine's about3 year old...

Here is a quote from my favorite magazine "Project Car Magazine" from one of the mechanics. "The previous owner locked up the motor by using another company's intake and sucking up a bunch of water -- hence the need for a rebuild. We're still not sure where he found a puddle of water that big in Southern California. Maybe he drove into a pool or something. Anyhow, we wanted to check out the new DRYFLOW filter from AEM that never needs oiling." If this help the decision process at all.

Mike: these pics are more useful IMO. This link is in the thread that I linked above.
