If it's bad enough that thicker oil etc aren't doing anything then chances are nothing is going to help, it's just to far gone. Do a compression test and see how it checks out, if it's really low then just get a new or rebuilt motor

I agree with the Restore and I have used it with success. It's a patch not a repair but it will slow down consumption and even out compression. Forget the mpg caps.

EDIT: I used this on a couple of old beaters that were sucking oil like mad. It has no place in an engine that is running correctly. It was a last ditch effort to avoid walking and it worked both times.

Aha! I've been meaning to post a thread asking opinions on engine restore! Now that I got two, I am satisfied. [sm=smiley20.gif]

Thanks for the edit RTexasF! I wasn't planning on using it anytime soon.

I'd try a heavy weight oil first. Addatives can get funny when you are burning oil and what's left in the engine will have soot. I'd go with a synthetic 20W50 and see how that performs before trying a 1 quart addative. Some addatives are good for different reasons, but in your case I'd try the heavy oil first. If this cuts down on the soot, 1000 miles pefore your next change, swap a quart of Marvel Mystery oil in and flush the engine before the change to remove the soot from the small oil passages.

Anybody ever tried Slick 50? I've heard a crazy story about that stuff. My boss flies small planes and he told me a story about a guy he knew who put Slick 50 in his small airplane engine (that's illegal, by the way.) Anywho, when he was up flying one day, something broke or malfunctioned(I can't remember what it was)and the engine sprayed oil all over the place. The engine kept running with enough power that he was able to land the plane safely before he cut it off. When they checked the engine, it had been totally run out of oil, butit hadlittle or no damage to it. Just a story. I guess it may not be applicable in this case, but I thought I'd add it for entertainment purposes.

I haven't heard anything good about slick 50 other than their marketting. For that type of product, I'd go with Lucas, but a high quality synthetic won't need any addatives. The Marvel is a great cleaner, but thins the oil, so it's best to only use it for 1000 miles, but it won't hurt to use it longer.

Ive tried slick 50 transmission teatment, on my brothers 2000 accord v6 sedan. Got to say it does help with the littel problems like the 3rd gear hard shift is much less noticable, But 1st gear still ****fs like the car just got hit by a missle. But hey with 160,000 miles cant complain. Still lucky its driving us.
