Hello all I’m a newbie to the forum. I just got a 2011 Honda accord EX. This is my third Accord and I think I am going to keep this one. The sound system is ok, but nothing like my wife’s Acura TL (of course, she has a sub woofer and amp) I have been looking a bass packages and Head units. I really like the Pioneer AVH-P3300BT because of all the features you get with it, but I would also like a little more bass I was looking at this . http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700R150112/Rockford-Fosgate-150-watt-Bass-Package.html?tp=118 . I am leaning more towards the HU, but will gladly take advice from the community. My budget is $400

Factory headunits take away the lower frequencies(bass) to protect the speakers. The factory headunit also doesn't have RCA pre-outs(signal from headunit to amp) so to do just the sub you'd need a line-out converter and should seriously consider a bass reconstructor(or both in one like the "audiocontrol: the epicenter plus" about $200 at sonic electronix) if you do sub first and later get the aftermarket headunit you won't need the reconstructor or converter. And now you have $200 of stuff doin nothing. So I would spend a bit more now and get the headunit first over spending a bunch more later.

 

Also the head unit you're looking at is $500 at crutchfield and $340 at sonic electronix. So you can spend $200 on the reconstructor ext. And $200 for the sub package =$ 400
Or
$340(headunit) + $200(sub and amp)=$540

but the $400 could become $740(400+340) if you change your mind and want the headunit.
Just some stuff to note.

 

i always vote new head unit first - the new head unit will make the stock speakers sound worlds better and give you a nice interface for the bass package.

then once you have the head unit, add a bass package.

Crutchfield includes a warranty and the wiring harness, mounting kit, instructions, etc. SonicElectronix includes none of those, the "savings" get eaten up once you get everything you need to install. something to keep in mind. i give Crutchfield my highest recommendation for online retailers. you pay more, you get more.
