Is this something that needs to be done in a 2014 Honda Accord if I plan to install an aftermarket audio system?

Good question. I have someone looking into the ELD on the 2013 and 2014 models.

Thanks!

I wonder if the 2013 Civic EX-L has ELD? If so, then I did not have any issues at all with it running a JL Audio HD1200/1 and a HD500/4. I did upgrade the batter to an XS Power battery, but that was it.... didn't even do the Big 3 on it. Never once had an issue.

with honda's trend i would have to guess a yes.

with your honda you can probably use hondata. it comes in the program the eld on/off selection. i have it on my civic and i use it. very nice system. worth the money.

do you have volt meter that you can see while driving? also, if you keep the ignition load up, the alt stays on.

No volt meter that will reach, although I could probably rig something up.

I do run the climate control on Auto about 99% of the time, so that might help keep the load up.

I am also installing an XS Power D3400 battery in the 2014 Accord.

the alternator regulates voltage to the car. the pcm controls the field ckt to shut down the alternator to reduce load at given times. the eld is a sensor for pcm to control this circuit. and as with all pcm sensors, if the eld is unplugged, the pcm does NOT become confused. it sees and open ckt throws a code and stops using that sensor. you can use this method to test the eld. unplug it, and see if you still have problems. yes the check engine light will come on, and the pcm should always keep the alternator charging.

that is why an ~820 ohm resistor in the end of the plug will trick the PCM into thinking the ELD is present and there is sufficient draw to keep the alt on while not throwing a code.

I unplugged the eld in my 08 civic lx when I got a h/o alt and had no cel. Unfortunately, that car was recently totaled and now I have a '13 civic lx. From what I've been told, the charging system is the same as the accords and I'm looking for help. I was told the alt is no longer controlled by an eld so you can't just unplug it, has anyone found a way to bypass the new charging limits?

sounds like we need a new tech brief on the new charging systems
