1999 Accord - Crankshaft Pulley

RE: 1999 accord pulley system diagram
Well, usually it takes a tremendous amount of work (and some not-very-nice words) to get it OFF.
If you're sure the toothed timing belt (inside the plastic covers) didn't skip any teeth, you can probably put the pulley back together. But it's tightening torque is pretty high.
Putting the external drive belts back on is pretty easy.

I agree getting the thing off is the hard part.... the fact that it came off is REALLY strange... recent timing belt change? Or did the pulley itself break?
Either way it's just a matter of lining up the "key" and the pulley the putting the bolt back on and getting it to torque to 180 ft/lbs then put the belts back on. With the proper tools it's a 30 minute job. Without them who knows how long it will take, Honestly a repair shop shouldn't charge you more than 1 hour labor about about $60-$80 for the pulley.

This is kind of odd this just happened to me also, I got my pulley back on with new belts and the crank pulley is making a bad clicking noise. I was going to pull the pulley back off and see if there was any damage; should have done that in the first place. But putting it on is simple, getting the tension on the power steering belt is easier with two people though. One to hold it in place and the other to tighten it down. Not to steal your thread but if anyone has an idea about the clicking I would appreciate it you can send me a pm or something. Once I get the pulley off and put back on I will make a little DIY to post up.

You may have better luck starting a new thread but I'll post an answer here anyway.... watch your pulley when the car is running, does it have room to slide in/out at all or is it in there solid? are you sure it's the pulley that's clicking? If you can replicate the noise at an idle that helps determine where it's coming from exactly... You didn't overtighten the belt did you?

jim, nasty:
still haven't got a chance to take a closer look at the crankshaft pulley that fell off. because i'm still trying to fix battery light on my 1990 accord... i will check in here after i get a chance to look at it.
snoopy, no problemo!

okay, i finally got a chance to take a closer look at the fell out crankshaft...the bolt holding the crankshaft pulley is sheared off and some still stuck in there. there's a little chip on the outside rim of the pulley, but i am more worry about the gear teeth; it seems a bit wore down or is that how it suppose to be? tomorrow i will take a few snap shots of the sheared bolt.

The broken bolt can usually be spun out with a small screwdriver. If not a reverse twist drill bit will get it right out.

RE: 1999 accord pulley system diagram
hey guys, got the sheared crankshaft bolt out and the key is not going back in flush with the crankshaft. i am thinking someone worked on it before and maybe didn't align everything properly. it looks like i might have to take the entire cover off to realign it? is there an easier way or what to look out for?
thanks.
thanks.
