It hits redline, the torque converter locks up causing an rpm drop, then it hits redline again still in 3rd gear with the converter locked-up. I've heard that the second 3rd gear redline is somewhere around 115 mph.

 

pull the tranny dipstick and smell the fluid on it. If it smells burnt, drain + refill. 3 quarts honda ATF ONLY! drive around for a day or two, then pull the dipstick again and smell the fluid on it. If it still smells burnt... do another drain + refill (you only change out 1/3 of the fluid when you drain + refill it). If it still doesnt shift right, take it to a shop.

The second redline is at 100 mph. I checked yesterday on the way home from work

 

Good to know .... my V6 hits about 105 before the first redline. It's been a long time since I've hit tripple digits.

 

i believe my tranny is fine. tranny fluid smells ok. yesterday i took it on it freeway on the way to work and hammered it so i could observe it. it did its rpm drop then back to redline then hit 4th at 105 ish. im not a honda genius yet but still learning about my car =)
