Default 1991 Accord EX Cooling Fan Trouble!

Hello everyone, I drive a 1991 Honda Accord EX 2 door. I recently noticed that I hadn't heard the cooling fan cycle on and off like it normally would. I checked my fuses under the hood to realize that the fuse for the cooling fan was blown. A couple more days went by and still I hadn't heard the fan run, again the fuse was blown under the hood. Is the cooling fan relay the problem here? Otherwise would the switch, if it was bad, make it blow the fuse? I havn't checked the ohm resistence between the two leads on the switch yet. Is the fan pulling too much? What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I would check the wiring to the fan is good shape. If one was shorted to itself or ground, it would cause a short.

Maybe unplug the fan and see if the fuse still blows (it would rule out the fan).

As thefan motorgoing bad, itcan draw too much current as it gets worse. Unplugging the fan will tell you if thats it.

I would check the wiring and unplug as suggested above. Another "primitive" test: reach down there (engine not running of course) and try to push pull back and forth (pull towards front of car and push towards back of car) on the fan. if there is any play in the fan, the motor is likely out. That is a cheap and easy fix. I had to replace my fan motor in the money pit a little less than a year ago. I think I wound up spending about $45 or so and it maybe took me an hour or two to do it (you do have to cut and splice wires.)

Thank Youfor all your help guys... I pulled the fan motor out and the motor was froze up. The motor must have gotten so hot it melted the fan blade mounting point so it made the blades side-ways. I bench tested the motor and its junk. I bought a new motor for $45 as you said it would cost me and I'm waiting for the fan blade from either a junk yard or hondawhen they open onmonday. Have a good day!
