I searched around the forum and didn't see this particular problem, so here goes. My wife's car had an aftermarket radio installed when we bought it, but it was not functioning. The factory radio came with the car, so I pulled the aftermarket radio and re-installed the factory one. It worked fine for a little while. It still powers on and the antenna extends, but for some reason, the only time audio comes thru the speakers is when the lights are turned on.

I just resolved the dreaded flashing D4 light and replaced the TCU and main relay today, but this problem had been going in prior to that.. Any ideas? While I was working on that, my wife asked me to look at the radio, and that's when I noticed you could turn the lights on and it worked fine. Seems like if it were a bad fuse or a short in the wiring, it wouldn't work at all or at the least would be intermittent.

You will have to get a volt meter to find out what is wrong with the wiring harness. The inputs are shown on this page:

Sounds like a wire got switched......YEL/RED vs BLK/RED...Using the 3rd gen (86-89) for the colors. One is power from the ign switch, the other is power from the lights.
