Using the Vin on Majestic I got that it's a Denso.

I heard some funny noises when the car was idling the other day and when I looked at the clutch it was moving a little bit. The clutch was trying to work, but wouldn't catch.

I put the 10MM bolt back in the end of the compressor shaft and I can turn it with a 1/4 ratchet. I do get some resistance, which I expected, but not hard to turn with a 1/4 in ratchet so if the clutch was working it should easily turn the compressor.

Once I got the clutch off and saw what it looks like, I think it has to be the clutch.

I'm going to order a new clutch and will report back when it comes in.

I'm going on vacation so am going to order one online and will install it when I get home.

Thank you for the help thus far.

Well I went out of town on vacation for a week, so when I came home the new A/C clutch was waiting, along with a new replacement fan for the driver's side of the rad (the old one was a Dorman bought in 2014 that seemed to be intermittently running, so I had it replaced under warranty).

Got everything buttoned up late yesterday afternoon and I have ice cold A/C again.

Thanks for the help in troubleshooting!

all of that grease is bearing grease, that bearing is toast, it's a good thing you caught it when you did or it was ready to seize up and destroy the entire ac system
