It is supposed to turn the engine off when you hit the brake on a remote start. Ive got a hornet alarm system for my 94 accord and its a security feature, say youre warming up the car and someone sees it idling in the driveway and want to steal it, they hit the brake and it stops the engine. Theres a way for the hornet alarm system to keep the engine on after a remote start, but youve got a clifford so its probably not relevant. Also, say you remote start it and your remote doesnt respond when you want to turn it off, you hit the brake and the engine shuts off.

When I warm my car up in the winter I remote start it, use the remote to turn it off, then put the key in the ignition and start it with the key. Thats what its designed to do. It doesnt eliminate the key.

Read your alarm's user manual and see the procedure for keeping the car's engine running, it should be something like remote start, then put the key in the ignition, and turn it to II, but not so the starter motor engages (thats for the hornet system).

Other than that, you said it stalls on the freeway after a while? Check the battery voltage upon the stall, because it could be a bad alternator that doesn't maintain charge while youre driving, the battery will discharge and it would cut the engine, lights, pretty much anything thats depending upon the battery for power.

I think that should just about solve it, unless I'm missing something.

Lemme know how it goes.

Right. The alarm remote start is what's allowing me to get home....as long as I don't hit the brake. I put the automatic shifter in neutral, start, and then gear down to get it home without using the brakes. However, even when I put the key in the ignition after remote start the ignition won't respond, thus, hit the brake and all power is...poof.

This definately sounds like an ignition problem even if you have changed it, I had the same problem with a few of my accords and on one of them I changed the switch three times before i got it working correctly, and I had a 97 -98 one that got recalled for the same problem,as for the brakes once the ignition is off you will loss them, maybe you can still use the pedal but it will go hard due to having no ignition/engine running and the servo wont be working.

I think you're missing the point. Remote start systems arent intended to start the car and have you drive off, theyre for warming up your car in the winter time, primarily. Use your key as primary ignition, and use the remote start when you want to warm your car up.

Right, but the remote start has helped me limp the car home on some side streets during test drives. It does beat pushing the car home or calling thy tow truck.

I changed the switch again, but same problem. The dash lights don't come on before trying to start. However, when using the remote start, it will start, but turning the key to on position has no effect. When I apply the brake, the car shuts off just as it is supposed to with no key in the ignition. Only problem is, the key is in the ignition in the on position.

Dude, i know whats wrong. See when you have remote start installed you hit the button. it starts the car. If you try to take off without putting the key in the start/on position, the car will die. Your alarm is not hooked up correctly, I will bet my bottom dollar. I have about 50 cents in my pocket soo.......

PAhonda!!!!!!! you the man. It was the ALARM!!!!!!!!!!!! I was lucky enough to trace the problem to the black Clifford alarm box. When I held the box with pressure on the cover... the lights lit up like a CHRISTMAS tree!!!! I took the box apart and traced it to a broken solder joint on the main board. A hot solder gun and a bit of solder........ the rest is history!!!!! If you lived in the area... I'd take you out for a few tall ones! You saved me a ton of $$$$$$$. Could you imagine taking that problem to a shop? They could have taken me to the bank....big time. Three cheers for PAhonda, the man of the hour!!!!! Thanks PA!
