89 accord cooling system
#2
Use the bleeder valve on the t-stat where the "UPPER HOSE" connects to the engine. Yes in the 3rd gen Accord the UPPER hose connects to the t-stat housing.
The method that has worked for me on the 3rd gen;s -and other Accord gen's.......use at your own rick, hot coolant will burn skin.
I'll assume there is some coolant in the system.....
Set the heat to max, be sure the heater control valve is "open". Start the car and let it run for a few minutes - less than five. Shut it off.
Remove the rad cap. Open the bleeder valve on the t-stat housing. SLOWLY add coolant to the rad until a nice stream of coolant is coming out. Close the bleeder. Be sure to top off the rad.
Put the rad cap back on - ONLY TO THE FIRST CLICK, not all the way.
Start the car and let it run. Depending on conditions it could take a while, let the car idle for ~20 minutes or so while keeping an eye on the temp gauge (don't rev it, just let it idle). The cooling FANS (both) should cycle at least once, Once they do.
Shut the car off and let it sit for ~2 minutes.
Remove the cap - warning, the cap was only at one click so there should not be any pressure built up in the system....
Verify that the rad is fill, add coolant if needed......verify and add coolant to the overflow. Replace the rad cap all the way, second click. Start the car and you should be good to go.
