Ok this is just me....sorry, I had my own thing to go do yesterday afternoon.

Someone has been playing with wires on this thing....since you have had this car has the speedo ever worked, were you always getting a VSS code?

I ask because the two wires in the one pic - BLU/GRN and BLU/YEL would match up to going to the "Counter Shaft Speed Sensor"...so I'm now wondering what is pluuged into that? It is on the "end cover" of the trans kind of towrds the firewall side of the car.

The speedometer has always worked and I've never gotten the Vss code until last week. Been driving this thing for a year now.

I really have no idea, all I know is that those two wires were apparently spliced with the wires from the vss. And those two wires were plugged into the connector that I posted.

I know absolutely nothing about a countershaft sensor or anything. I thought there was only the vss. so when i ripped these wires out could i have ripped some other wires out?

I'm just going off the wire colors in the pic - they match up to the wire colors for the counterchaft sensor.

The counter shaft and main shaft sensors are on the "end cover" of the trans - might have to pull the pass inner fender (platic splash shield) to get a good view of them. I'm just wondering if somehow they got swapped around.

Well I just took it to a mechanic so hopefully it goes well for me.

Let me ask you this, If it was just the vss that was not wired, would that cause the trans not to shift? Or would that be more related to the counter or main shaft sensor?

I can go without a speedometer but I can't drive this thing when it won't shift out of first or second. And that's the problem. But all ran well until I ripped out the vss, or what I thought was the vss.

Update: so I took it to A mechanic. He said whoever did this work previously had it rigged. He said he could go digging around for the wires and get everything right but I'm looking at a pretty big bill if that's the case. Or he could rig the wiring and get the vss working and maybe that would fix it. So that's the route I went. He charged me 100 dollars to do that.

It's running now. Actually driveable but it is running like **** and not shifting properly. Speed sensor isn't working properly and the S light is flashing green still.

So what do you guys think? He said that there's likely some wiring in there that still needs to be fixed. Maybe the crankshaft and main sensors?

You need to stop guessing and check the transmission codes. Go to the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum and read the section on checking engine codes. Post the codes you get on here. Then we can help you troubleshoot the problem.

That's the problem, I know how to check the codes and the only codes I've gotten is a code 17 which is vss.

If you haven't checked after the work was completed, please recheck. Does the check engine light also flash any codes?

I will run the CEL codes again. Transmission codes? Are you saying there's another way to get codes than the standard way of checking the cel codes?

Would I do that the same way as getting the cel codes? I tried and I'm not getting anything. Maybe they disconnected the battery while working on it and that's why. I am getting a constant flashing S light while I'm driving the car

Alright so I got my tcu (flashing s) code. It flashes 9 times. So that would be the countershaft speed sensor? Also, when I search for this part all I can find is input and output shaft speed sensor. Which one of these would be the countershaft sensor?
