92 Accord smells like rotting veggies, dung
Hello
I thought I had fixed the issue of the cow dung smell from the Honda's vents. It rained heavily yesterday and I got into my car and smelled a rotting vegetable smell. I had tried a month or two ago to spray Clorox and Lysol into the vents but to no apparent avail. Is there an air conditioner filter as in the '96 models? How do I get to the intake for the A/C system?
Or do I just need to drive the machine into a vat of Listerine?
Thanks
Ken

cabin filter did not start till 98 .
you need to remove the evaporator from the car, take it apart, remove all the junk that might be attached to it, clean it with soap and water, replace the 2 insulators, spray the casings, insulators and evap with some good smelling lysol or fridy fresh,,,,,,put it all together ..
this is the only way that the bad smell will not come back . if you spray deodorizing in the vent , it is like putting a band aid on a 5 inch cut ...
now,, to do so you need to evac and recharge the a/c system.

**This works like Desert says, I had to do this to my 1991 Accord a couple of years ago because of the same problem..**

Fellas:
Thanks for the info. I wonder if the housing can be removed from the lower 1/2 of the evaporator and some strong non-acidic cleaner sprayed onto the evap without having to discharge the R-12 (or more correctly paying someone to do this) ?
Also is the intake under the grille between the wiper arms and the windshield? I might try to spray Clorox inside the intake.
Thank you

If you want to prevent this problem, use fresh air setting and turn off the A/C for the last few minutes of every trip. The mold and stink is caused by too much moisture left in the evap housing when the car is sitting with no air flow.
