I figure if I can keep from removing [and therefore having to replace] the intake and exhaust gaskets, I can put this one back together for about $200. And that includes an oil change and fresh antifreeze.

I'm good with that because I know that the bottom end of this motor is solid and everything on it works well.

 

Ebay is another source for used heads. You can get some buyer protection on used parts. I've bought quite a few w/ no problems.

Life has been a little busy, so it's taken me a while to get working on this project. Pulled the head and my bad news got even worse. The #2 piston has a half moon shaped hole in it from one of the valves... So, looks like I'm in the market for a used engine >
