Question 96 Honda Accord Won't start, Not Main Relay

Having an interesting problem, I have a 1996 Honda Accord EX Vtec 2.2, 4 door sedan, It will start in the morning, or if it hasn't been running for 4 hours or longer if it's cold out. If you run the car more than an hour and turn it off, it will not restart, It won't even try to crank.

However, If I hook up jumpers or a battery charger, it will start right up after a few mins, but If I drive it home, turn it off, the next day it will start in the morning no problem

Everything I found on pointed to the main relay, So I replaced that with no success, the ignition has been bypassed with a switch for the ignition, and a push button to start (Previous Owner)

I've replaced the battery cables, and the posts are clean, no corrosion, I hear the relay click, but it doesn't crank Unless I jump it or charge it when its hot.

Any Ideas? I'm stumped

All the main relay does is send power to the fuel pump and to the injectors.

Give us a bit more information on your starting problem. Different people use different terms when describing starting your engine. When I turn the key to the start position, the starter cranks the engine. When the engine fires up (runs on its own), I release the key.

So, when your car is not starting up, is the starter cranking the engine? Or will the engine not fire up?

Not cranking at all means the starter or the signal going to the starter.

Disconnect the small blk/wht wire that goes to the starter. Use a volt meter to verify voltage is getting there when you have an assistant try to start the car.

Is your car an automatic or manual transmission?

If you can hear the starter solenoid click than you should be down to the starter , batt cables or battery. Have you verified the battery condition under load. It is common to have a starter affected by temp.

I'll try testing it under load, and try testing the black and white wires, I'll let you know what happens

I want to make sure we are on the same page. I am writing about a carbon pile load tester like most auto parts stores have to test a battery.
