98 honda accord dying
ok so im sorta in a little pickle here(okay maybe a big pickle) my mom has a 98 honda accord dx it was always burning a lot of oil and recently started overheating and the check engine light came on for crankshaft position sensor so i erased the code and began to do the head job, after taking off the head i realized the piston rings on one cylinder were bad so i changed all piston rings, while reassembling the car i decided to take the intake apart and give it a cleaning with break cleaner.now im having a problem where the car will randomly die in lower gears usally when coming to a stop. i also noticed that theres now a sound when i engage the clutch sorta like a little bang but when i release the clutch it goes away. So my question to the community is my clutch bad? Also what could be causing the car to shutoff?a bad clutch?maybe the crankshaft sensor(even though check engine light is no longer on?)?
im just really lost and dont know which way to move anymore id really appreciate some help, also if you need a video of the sound i can make a short video maybe even record me driving to see when it shutsoff
again thanks for listening hopefully i can figure this out with your help

Do you remember the specific code you were getting? You may want to check for new codes.
Why did you go from a CEL for a sensor, to doing a head gasket? Did you do a compression test before or after replacing the HG? Did you take the cylinder head to a machine shop to get milled, so it is perfectly flat?

first off thanks for the reply its much appreciated!
ok soi had already decided to do the head gasket because the car was overheating, and burning lots of oil.it just happened the day before i started the CEL light came on so i plugged in the scanner and erased the code(i dont remember the exact code). Also i did do a compression check which showed one bad cylinder. and the cylinder head was taken to a machine shop to get milled.

I would do a compression test on the engine with the new HG.
I am guessing that you replaced the crank sensor when you did the work.
Are these problems new, or was this happening before?
I would also go over your work. Check to make sure you didn't switch plugs. I know on the 9-97 accord had a map and tps sensor you could accidentally switch. Definitely check the main ground for the harness (G101). It is two eyelets that ground to the driver's side of the upper part of the intake manifold.
You should also have a sticker of the vacuum routing in the engine. Double-check that you reinstalled that correctly.

I will do another compression test.
And I did not replace the crank sensor because I drove it to the store and back and the CEL didnt come back on so I figured it was fine.
These are all new problems.
Now that you mention it I need to check the ground on the intake manifold I remeber putting it on but never tightened it up that may be my problem , ill update you tomorrow thanks a lot for that info

just an update..i had a tech from honda come over and look at it,hes saying it seems to be either the timing belt or valves are not adjusted correctly,im pretty sure the timing belt is correct but just to be safe ill re align everything tomorrow and adjust the valves so im keeping my fingers crossed.
