Default AC/Heat Dial Snapped Loose

My Black 95 EX continues to do great. With only 70K on it, proper maintenance, garaged all its life, it should. Now, I have a funny thing that just happened. Not funny ha-ha. The dial for the heat/AC lost all tension the other day. It's like it snapped as I was turning from AC to the Heat side (the blue arrow to the red arrow). It is still attached and in place, but now it slides back and forth easily.
And the heat no longer works. The AC seems OK.

How serious is this? How typical is this? Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

yea you snapped that cable either somewhere along the line. or at either connection. there is one connection right behind that dial in the dash and there is a connection under the hood on a hose that flows the hot coolant into the heater core. just as a guess in thinking that you snapped the connection at that hose that i am talking about because that cable is actually pretty strong. that connector on the hose usually gets a little corrosion on it.

So I should just take this to my Honda dealer? Or where?
THanks.

the cable might have just become disconnected from the switch as well... I would start by pulling off that part of the dash and taking a look... If you are worried about it don't be... it's going to cost you just as much to try it yourself and not be able to fix it as it will to take it in without trying anything. Here's the manual pages from a 94 (should be the same...) give it a shot, if you can't read them very well PM me your e-mail addy and I will send them via PDF format. Give it a shot it'll be worth it...

It's not a full dash removal at all... just the gauge cluster, I'd suggest a few different sizes of screwdrivers (phillips and flathead) and maybe a cheap socket set (If you don't have one already spend the $10.00 for a cheap one from an auto parts store) ... my new favorite place to buy screwdrivers is thrift stores and pawn shops.... you'd be amazed what they'll sell for $1.00
