Unhappy A/C blowing hot air

I am a 23 yr. old woman who knows nothing about cars. Recently my A/C quit blowing cool air. I am certain its something to do with a wire connected to one of my fans. The fan doesn't come on. But if you wiggle the wires it does come on and my air conditioner blows cool. Maybe a short? Any suggestions on what to do to fix this?

It's a 98 Accord (judging by your screen name)? Or is it a 72 Pinto?

Where's that wire located?

There are three fans in your car. Two are under the hood to help cool the engine down. One is behind the glove box, and its job is to blow air through the vents.

Which fan is giving you problem?

There are two fans that are bolted to the radiator. Both fans should turn on when the car is running and you turn on the a/c. Is the driver's or passenger side fan not turning on, or both?

Also, is your car a 4 or 6 cylinder?

Unplug the connector to the fan that is not working (#7 in the pic below). Start the car and turn on the a/c. Get a volt meter, set it to detect direct current voltage (DC) on the 2-20 scale.

See if you have ~12v by sticking each volt meter lead into both of those pins on the engine side of the wire harness. If you do, then you have a problem with the motor and should replace. If you don't then something is messed up electrically upstream.

So the driver's side fan is working?

Also, you say you can get the fan to come on by wiggling the wire...

Have someone inside the car checking the ventilation temperature. Wiggle the wires to make the fan come on. Better yet if you can hold the wires into a position where it stays running. Does the ventilation air blow COLD now?

thanks for the help. Haven't had a chance to unplug anything, but i can tell you that the air does blow cold if someone hold the wire in place.
