Ok thanks. With limited know how of checking electrical systems what's the best way to check it for power?

The single wire at the compressor will either be live (+12v) or not.

So there's a plug there for you to unplug, & get a voltmeter or a test lamp.
Red wire from the voltmeter to the wire that you just unplugged & black meter-lead on a good metal thing like maybe a lifting lug on the engine.
If the meter reads 13 volts or so (or if the test lamp lights up) then you have voltage & the problem is in the compressor-clutch.
