So problem solved... didn't even take it to the shop. i decided to remove the catalytic converter and take a look inside. a chunk of baffle had gone side ways blocking the exhaust flow. it was letting just enough air get by to not kill the motor, but rob all the power. the fix was simple... jam a rod threw the converter, and clean out all the chunks! I've got a DynoMax converter in the mail, but it runs so much better now. it's crazy how much the converter restricts air flow!!! So thank you all for your input, and next time your car feels under powered, start with the basics... Air in, air out.

Wow!
Obstructing the exhaust will ALWAYS make it run real bad. It just doesnt strike me as a very common thing.
Another example of *dont take anything for granted*...

well now the "check engine light" is on... do you guys think it's the sensor for the converter throwing a code? i'm gunna take it to schucks and have them read it. will keep posted...
