circulation problems
89 Accord, carb - 2.0L. Problem with water flow. Seems that bottom rad, hose only gets @ luke warm while top is screaming hot. The sealed overflow leaks from the weep holes at top. Having trouble bleeding air from system. When engine warm, the reservoir leaks from weep holes, if I open bleed screw slightly or the rad. cap, the leak stops, obviously going to where I relieved the pressure too. Pump is making no tell tale sounds & no leak is noticed in that area. I don't think the head gasket is bad, but may be wrong! Any suggestions @ best methods to troubleshoot? I've tried rad. flush & new thermostat w/ same results. I know the water flows from the engine into rad. when stat opens to allow rad, to cool, so bottom hose should be cooler, but not luke-warm. I've also tried flushing a few more times. Starting to get a headache along with back ache from bending over! I even took both old a new stat inside & boiled - both open quickly & close quickly when cooled. Where am I screwing up?
Your description sounds like a blockage in the system. Usually that is the thermostat, but you already replaced it.
I'm not sure about what weep holes you are describing. Is the overflow filling up and coolant spilling over? That overflow reservoir is not under pressure.
It sounds like you have a blockage in the radiator. The other possibility is that water pump is shot which is harder to repair.
How many miles(and years) are on the the water pump? How often did you change the coolant? When you first starting having overheating problems, was there a lot of rust in the coolant?
If you have a partial blockage in the radiator, you may want to fill the inside of the radiator with vinegar. You would have to drain the coolant, then remove the lower hose. You would have to block the lower part of the radiator somehow. Here is a thread on someone that did this: https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...yl-auto-32592/

Really want to know more or see pic's of these weep holes?
And so that everyone remembers...the 3rd gen's are a little different.....the top hose is the "outlet"/t-stat side of the cooling system....so the top hose being "hotter" than the lower would be "somewhat" normal.
Is the car over heating on the gauge? Do the fans (both) cycle on and off? Did you bleed the system with the heat set to "hot"/Max?

EDIT: this goes to a post not long ago about belt tension...on the 3rd gens the alt belt also drives the wp....so too tight and the wp bearing goes in ~30K miles.........been there, done that as well and only have myself to blame as I was the dummy that did it.
