Clutch or tranny problem - 1989 Accord
Well I ended up dropping the tranny to inspect the clutch it was not working by just adjusting it, well big surprise the pressure plate seemed like it was just replaced so I knew it was not a worn out clutch and it was not the problem was that when that person had the clutch replaced they probably got the flywheel worked at or I dont know but for some reason one of its bolts was holding on by the last treads causing the clutch to drag, I replaced release bearing, clutch and preasure plate works good now but 5 gear its gone so ill be replacing tranny soon, now to attack on the high idle problem. Thank you for all the help.
Hey MICHOASTYLE,
Did you end up replacing your transmission? If so, how long did your trans last with no 5th gear. I have an 89 I just bought with no 5th gear. The guy I bought it from said it has been gone for a year, I just bought it to go to work and back so don't need to get to highway speed anyways.

Right on,
Thanks for the reply...I know it is an old thread. I was just curious, the guy I bought the car from said he's heard of people driving these with 5th out for years...So far, mines all good

Yeah it drove and drives good these cars are not meant to race and not having 5th gear you should be able to get by, save money on gas. Good luck with that little Honda and no problem I'm glad answered your question
