cruise control issue 96 accord lx
cruise would work intermittently and i my speedo was acting crazy. i replaced my vss, repaired my speedo and replaced brake light switch, tested the cruise actuator selenoid. i adjusted the actuator cable as described in the manual. still, sometimes i start the car and the cruise works perfectly and sometimes i start the car and it doesn't. when it doesn't and i try to set it, the cruise light on the dash comes on and turns off. i'm trying to nail this down. what next?
There are several items that can cause the cruise control not to work.
This isn't the most accurate test, but grab the gear selector (is this an automatic transmission accord?) and shake it while in gear. See if the CC works.
Are the brake lights on constantly when the CC stops working?
Do you know how to back-probe an electrical connection and how to set up a volt meter to measure voltage or continuity to ground?

thanks for replying. i will try the shake test next time it doesn't work and i will check to see if the brake lights are on constantly. i have become familiar with a multimeter. i have used it recently to test an alternator, battery, and the cruise actuator plug for resistance. i replaced the brakelight switch by marking the old one with white out and marking the new one the same. it appears it is making solid contact with the brake pedal. could that need more adjustment?
Problem appears to be a faulty cruise On switch.
This switch should stay in On condition whether cruise is selected or not and remains on when keyswitch is cycled from On/Off/On. If it drops off, the switch is likely faulty.
good luck

I didn't understand your post.
Yes, switch on the steering wheel or the cable reel can cause this problem.
Suggest downloading the 94-97 Accord manual from Online Manuals post in DIY forum.
