Default Dealership Repair?

Hello! My Accord just hit 115,000 miles and I think I'm done worrying about when/if the timing belt is going to break on me. I received a quote from my local Honda dealer to the tune of $1,300 which included the water pump, flush & fill brake fluid and antifreeze, and a few other things that I cannot recall now. $1,300 seems very high, but I'm not sure. Is this something that I should have the dealer do? Or does someone know of a reputable Honda repair shop in the Twin Cities area? This is definitely something that I doNOT want to tackle myself, but not 100% confident in the"Mom & Pop" shops, either.

i had mine done at a dealer last summer for around $600 not including brake fluid, but i doubt that takes up the rest of the $700. seems like you are getting ripped off. a non-dealer mechanic quoted me at around $500 which i think would have been fine.

See and that's the common amount I've been seeing on different forums...anywhere from about $500 - $700.Would the difference in cost vary that much between different zip codes? I'm going to try calling around to different Honda dealers in my area and see how much the price varies.

Get out your yellow Pages and look for a Honda Certified shop. That's how I found mine, and I live in Mississippi. If we have Honda Certified shops(not dealerships)in Mississippi, I am SURE they have them in the twin cities. Call around and get a bunch of quotes. Good luck. IMO $1300 is a rip. Got mine done at a Honda certified shop for $450. The dealership about a mile down the road from the shopwanted $600.
I got a family friend mechanic to to the t-belt service on my 95. He tried to only charge $200 but I gave him $300.
If I were you, I may call the dealership back and ask them how much they would charge without the brake fluid service and if you brought the parts in yourself (You can buy Honda OEM parts for under $200). I doubt the dealership willinstall anything other than genuine Honda parts, but you NEED genuine honda parts for t-belt and water pump.
