Default ECU light resets when testing

Accord EX 1991

The cel light and some times the S light have been coming on after I run it for 20 minutes or so.

I'm trying to check the cel and S codes. I used a jumper on the blue 'receptacle' but when I turn the key the lights reset and turn off. The mechanic used his computer and it did the same thing.

Not sure how to proceed from here.

I don't have the manual and don't know how to find out the engine size or tranny type.

Thanks for joining.

One thing you might try is next time the CEL/D4/S light comes one.....pull over and leave the car running and try jumping the connector and see if it gives you any codes.

PS_ I'm also moving this for better views/responses.

Your 1991 Accord's transmission control unit may have the LED display indicator as part of the module. Pull the passenger side carpet back to access it.

If the transmission control unit has the LED, turn on the ignition without jumping the service check connector to count the flashes of that LED.

Problem codes 1 through 9 are indicated by individual short blinks, Problem codes 10 through 1 5 are indicated by a series of long and short blinks. One long blink equals 10 short blinks. Add the long and short blinks together to determine the problem code.
