I cleared the ECU last night. Seems to have taken care of the 'check engine' light. It didnt come on at all today. I still havent checked into the EGR valve yet. I guess I need to take a look at the online manuals and figure out where it is, sounds like a project for this weekend.

And thanks for the assist, sir nasty. lol

By the way, anyone know how to get to the EGR valve lol? I checked the "EGR cleaning" sticky that was posted in the DIY section, but none of those links mentioned the valve, just the ports. Thanks guys.

As I pulled the EGR valve this afternoon, I noticed that the EGR valve lift sensor wasnt even plugged into anything. It has a plug that runs off the top, and I can see the other plug that (I assume) it should plug into. But it wasnt plugged in. Any reason for it to not be plugged in? Should I plug it back in?

I am about at my wits end with this EGR stuff. After I initially cleaned the ports, the car drove great for a few days, then the "bucking" started again. So I took off and cleaned the EGR valve, and noticed that the lift sensor wasnt plugged in. So when I reassembled it, I plugged the lift sensor back in to the plug that it looked like it should go into (the only plug available). The car ran well for a few more days, but then the symptoms returned. I shall attempt to describe what it is doing.

This occurs when the car has been sitting for a while and has had the chance to cool down. I start driving, and I get a bucking or jerking feeling. RPMs are between 1200 and 2500 when it happens. If I floor the gas, it hesitates like it has turbo lag or something, then kicks in and runs out to WOT just fine. USUALLY after I do that once or twice, it doesnt happen again until the next time I start the car after it has cooled down. For lack of a better way to describe it, it feels like there is something clogged somewhere, and when I go to WOT it clears the blockage for a little bit.

I have cleaned the EGR system twice now, I have tried fuel system cleaner, SeaFoam, oil additives, changing the oil doesnt help, changing the fuel filter didnt help, and I just dont know what the problem is.

A couple of thoughts. Maybe my EGR valve is inoperative? It moves fine when I manually press the diaphram up, is there a real way to test it? Also, is it possible my o2 sensor is bad? I have heard that it causes symptoms that are similar to what I am experiencing.

Anyone have any ideas? Sir Nasty? Desert? JimBlake? Yeu? Anyone? Lol I just want my car to run right!!

That sound like your O2 sensor. I think bucking is one of the symptoms for a bad O2 sensor. I think it costs $50 for the direct fit Denso or Ntk ones from sparkplugs.com. If it hasnt been changed in a while it might be a good idea to do so. Good luck!

Also i think the method to check the codes are to connect a jumper cable to the loose wire that doesnt connect to anything under the passenger glove compartment. once connected, you turn the ignition to the on position (do not start the car) and the check engine light will flash the codes. Google it and i think you can get a better idea for the codes.

Thats one thing I forgot to mention: it isnt throwing a CEL. It was for a while, but after I cleaned the EGR ports the first time and reset the ECU, it hasnt lit up since (about three weeks, I guess).

The Denso o2 sensor from sparkplugs.com is $76, I'll probably spring for it after the holidays, I just dont want to be a part-swapper, I want to actually know what the problem is before I start buying stuff that doesnt fix it.
