Default Got a Question

I have a 2000 Honda Accord Coupe. But it has a 2.3L VTEC engine. One of my friends said that that's not exactly a common thing. So I was wondering if you guys had any input on weather this is "rare" or not to have a VTEC in an Accord.

Much appreciated......

Advance Auto Parts had a stat where 45% of 95 Accords have the Vtec engine, so I would say that it is not rare.

Others can correct me if I am wrong, but Honda has had a Vtec since the mid 80s. I'm not sure when they started using them extensively. The difference is in the cylinder head where it changes the cam timing to give you more power in the higher rmp range.

I think that all EX Accords are Vtec.

actually it was in 1989 in Japan, hes a wikipedia copy and paste:

"The VTEC system was originally introduced as a DOHC system in the 1989 Honda Integra and Civic CRX SiR models sold in Japan and Europe, which used a 160 bhp (119 kW) variant of the B16A engine. The US market saw the first VTEC system with the introduction of the 1990 Acura NSX, which used a DOHC VTEC V6 with 270 hp. DOHC VTEC engines soon appeared in other vehicles, such as the 1992 Acura Integra GS-R (B17 1.7 liter engine). And later in the 1994 Honda Prelude VTEC (H22 2.2 liter engine) and Honda Del Sol VTEC (B16 1.6 liter engine)."

I know all about the VTEC system (it's VTEC, by the way, not V-tec, Vtec, ect.) Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control... I was just wondering if it was anything special. I knew a few of the older Accords had them, but I wasn't so sure about the newer (2000) models...

Thanks guys....

No, no... I know plenty about the VTEC system itself. Just not the cars it was put in... Two different things there...
