Default high rev when engine is hot V6

Hello everyone,
My son have a 2002 V6 Coupe (Accord of course) and have been having this issue high rev about 2000-2400 rpm when the engine is hot - I initially thought it was the thermostat because this was the same issue with my other car (Saturn), so I replaced the thermostat but no fix - I have been reading about the IACV but my car does not surge, actually it stays at above 2000 rpm and was unable to shift to Reverse or Drive - happened to me on more than one occasion when the engine gets hot, here is the other issue -after the fans kick a few times - the idle goes back down to about 1500 in Park or Neutral - and goes down even more when I turn on the AC - drops to about 1200 rpm -at this time I am able to shift the car. Could this still be an IACV problem? I am stumped at this time......Thanks for the help.

Idle is decreasing as load is added. Usual reason for high idle is intake air leak; PCV, brake vacuum booster, intake manifold. Suggest spraying throttle body cleaner around suspected locations and listening for a change in idle.

good luck

Thanks, I removed the PCV, I didn't hear a rattle at first, shook it again, heard a faint rattle - so I sprayed it with brake cleaner - dried it up - now I can hear the rattle a little louder on the PCV without getting my ear close to the PCV - reinstalled the PCV -so far so good, drove the car for about 15 miles - no high rpms - stayed pretty much at around 8-900 rpm during idle. Will check again tomorrow on my drive home.
