Default Honda accord 2003 slowing down during gear shifts

Hi everyone,

first of all let me say, i am very new to the world of "cars" . just brought my first car - a 2003 Honda accord Ex (Automatic, 2.4 ltr) with 87500 miles a month back. i haven't driven a lot before, but from whatever i felt, i never noticed the gear shifts , when driving an Automatic transmission.
but with this car, when i select "D" & gradually press the gas pedal, the speed increases steadily up to 10mph, then after that i feel like its just stopping a bit (like in manual , when u take ur foot of the gas pedal to press clutch & put the next gear) , then it picks up instantly. the same happens when i cross 20mph. like i can feel the gear shift happening ..
but after that it doesn't happen till 55mph (haven't driven above that).
is this something normal ?
any helps , suggestions would be appreciated. Thank u all in advance ..

are you letting off the gas when you feel it slow down?

no ..iam not letting the gas off .. just i press it gradualy , not too hard. i can feel its smoothly picking till around 10-12 mph & then like waits for a while & then suddenly passes that point
the rpm gauge would be on 2500 & then drops to 1500 & increases again ,. during this time . iam not feeling this once i have crossed the 30-35mph ... it just happens two times before that. could it be the transmission feeling hard to shift ?

Could be a few things.

With the milage on the car, if you do not have records to show that it has been done. I would suggest at least one drain and fill of the Trans with Honda Trans fluid. It would not hurt to do a second drain and fill after driving a few miles.

You could also stop by a parts store and ask them to check for any stored codes. If there are any get the actual code number and not their description of the code - Codes begin with a "P" and then four digits...P0420 as an example.
