to clear the code,, remove the back up fuse 7.5 amps from underhood fuse box for about 20 seconds,
to clear the maint lite there should be a little hole in the instr cluster, ,, stick the key in it and push it in,, it will turn from red to green

OK. I am having the same problem. Checked the CEL and got nine flashes. First, I tried to clear the code but the CEL light came right back on. Went to my haynes manual and it said to look for an 8 pin connector attached to the distributor and check resistance. I cannot see any 8 pin connector. Could someone point me to a place or send me a picture of the connector. I have a 1996 LX.
