Default Low speed brake scrape (e-brake?)

I had my brakes an rotors changes a little over a year ago. Over the last 6 months or so I've notices a rhythmic scraping noise at a low speed when braking. It's not the normal "time to replace pads" noise but more like a pece of sheet metal is lightly touching something on every revolution of the wheel. It happens if I press the brake OR pull up the emergency brake but doesn't happen if I coast. My guess is that it is emergency brake related and has something to do with the new rotor and the emergency brake hub. Whatever it is it seems to be getting worse. Like I said, it's not the typical "replace your brake" noise.

Thanks

You could have a shim out-of-position, or caliper pin that is frozen. This can cause pad to wear unevenly and get to "steel on steel" early. You need to remove wheel and inspect pads, shims, and caliper pins closely.

Caliper pin boots may need replacement and pins cleaning and regreasing.

good luck

I recorded the whawhawha scraping sound this morning. Here's a link to the wav file:

Maybe this will help diagnose the issue.

Thanks everyone!

Nope.. Maybe the recording doesn't make it clear enough. It only happens when the brakes are pressed. You can only hear it at low speed. It's almost like on one side of the rotor there is a piece of metal that rubs on something so every revolution of the wheel you hear the scrape. I'll jack it up tonight and put it on the stands and see if I can find what is rubbing.

Driving it today I would pull up the emergency brake when coming to a stop sign and it would make the same noise. As an experiment I pulled up the e-brake half way and drove for about .5 miles. After I put the e-brake back down the noise is gone. My theory is that it is rust on the emergency brake hub in the rear rotor and driving with the brake up polished it off. The good news is the e-brake still works

That's the last time I buy cheap rotors....
