New Honda.....Got advice?
I lucked into a 2001 Accord EX with only 66K mi. today.....stomach butterflies for 2 days until the financing went through. Now what to do?
Any and all advice would be appreciated. It's in pristine, "cream-puff" condition now, and I'd like to start early on any preventative maintenance to keep me on the road w/o problems. I will upload my own pics this weekend, in the "New Ride" section I guess, but trust me when I say that it looks, drives, and operates like a brand....new....car....@ 12 years old. Amazing, but that's what I was going for in the first place and I GOT IT !!!!!!!!! Wife and kids are like, "I'm so happy for you!", and I'm like...... OMG!!! You don't even KNOW! Like.....really......OMG!!!! (This is the place for such extravagant Honda LUV, right?.......Right........OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
For starters, I was thinking about changing the oil/filter, using Mobil 1 High Mileage, just for early precautions, and continuing to use Wix filters as I have on my '96 Accord. I know about the possible higher oil cost, but in my opinion that's not a cost, but an investment. Does HM oil do any damage to early mileage cars? Also, the scheduled manual maintenance says 5w-20 oil @ 7500 mi., and filter changes @ 15K mi. I was thinking that oil changes between 5-6K mi, and filter changes around 5.5-10K mi. should be fine. Manual also advises changing coolant @ 105K mi./10 yrs.....Wow! I may change that initially as well, just to be sure. Otherwise, I'm expecting good, regular maintenance for many years to come.
Again, any advice would be appreciated........................

I highly suggest doing the recommended maintenance and do not fix something that is not broken.
I would inspect the maintenance items like the spark plugs, dist. cap, dist. rotor, air filter, the two exterior belts, etc... Or find out when they were last replaced.
Check your tire tread. Maybe take a look at the suspension and listen for noises. You can put the front of the car on jackstands, then push/pull on the tire at 3/9 and 6/12 o'clock. There should be little movement when the steering wheel is locked.
Clean off the grease on the caliper slide pins and apply fresh silicone paste.
It is important to find out when the timing belt was last changed, if ever.
I think the high mileage oils have more detergents in them to keep particulates dissolved, so that shouldn't hurt your engine. I would say a pure one oil filters are pretty good.

I also did coolant change, and two AT drain and fills separated by 5 miles
when I got my AT Accord, continued with an annual D & F since.
