Default No brakes. abs code 18

Anyone know what this means? I ran low on brake fluid then lost brakes. Figured I have air in the system I topped it off and bled the brakes. I still have no brakes and every now and then I had the abs light flash but now its on solid.

To lose enough fluid to lose braking is very serious.

You need to locate the source of the fluid loss and repair/replace what caused that much fluid loss. If you cannot determine and repair where the leak is, you may want to go to a mechanic.

Code 1-8 is a fault in the high pressure system; accumlator gas leakage, changed relief valve set pressure, rear outlet solenoid valve late to close, changed pressure switch set pressure.

Accumulator can be replaced. Other faults will likely require a replacement abs modulator. Used ones are usually available on ebay or car-part.com for reasonable prices.

Soft brakes is unlikely related to abs faults. More likely you need to bleed again, or master cylinder is leaking.

good luck

I hear it hissing as I set on the pedal. I need to get this car fixed. Where should I start? I am going to try and bleed the brakes again. I read on another forum that you bleed the modulator, anyone know if this is true on a 94 EX?

In my experience, ABS modulator is not likely source of your problem. Have you located the leak? This is first task to repair. Loss of fluid source must be located.

good luck

Like Tex says, find & fix the leak first.

Here's how to bleed the ABS modulator.
