Default rear door latch clink

Hear the clinking sound? Sounds like it's coming from inside the latch itself. Is this fixable? Or just buy a new latch?

Thanks. John

Since the latch works, you can try lubricating it with some white lithium grease. That noise might be coming from the metal bar that prevents the door from swinging completely open. Its not in the same place, but location of the noises can be tough to pinpoint. White lithium grease on that part is simple to try and somewhat common problem.

It doesn't sound like the latch lever against the striker plate. It sounds like there is something inside the latch mechanism -- maybe a spring-loaded piece where there spring has disconnected?

I believe you are talking about the door check strap, in front by the hinges. It's definitely no the check strap -- that would make a different type of sound and you can definitely tell where it's coming from.

I figured it out. Turns out the rotating latch plate itself is metal covered with a 1-2mm plastic shell (see picture) ... and on my car the plastic cover had become brittle over time and broken off, exposing the metal on the inside. It was the metal on metal that was clinking.

Purchased a used latch on eBay for $15 plus shipping, and just put it in today. Noise gone
