Thanks for the tool information and yes it looks like a good one, not sure if threads are worth spending $123.

Here is another problem, I looked at the threads more carefully today. Threads in the front look more stripped than the back ones, back ones look just fine.

Please see attached few more picture, not sure if anything is going to fix/work on em?

The threads look usable. There are many companies that sell the kit I posted under different names and prices including Craftsman and you don't need the whole kit. I question if the tie rods are machined for the threads in your rack judging by the thread damage on the tie rod ends.

We have been hit by a snow storm in the area, gonna go and hit the tool stores to see what you have advised.

Worst option is replacing a Rack/Pinion, but really wanna start with an easy/simple route.

I went to sears today and look at this one, do you think it's suffice :

Sears.com

OR something similar to this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Craftsman-39...p2054897.l4275

Please forgive my ignorance, should I try tap or thread chaser? Just want to be careful, don't wanna screw the threads more, because then I will not have any choice, than to replace the whole rack.

Please advise, thanks for all the help.

Guy, any input about the tool please?

Also, is this price seems fair for a used part:

94 95 96 97 Honda Accord Steering Gear Rack 3877482 | eBay

Or should I go for a re-manufactured one?

P.S: Is the steering rack for 1994-1997( LX, EX and DX) is same or it's different?

Thanks again for all the help guys.

Tap or thread chaser will work. Blow out chips w/ air after cleaning.

Ebay price for rack is quite reasonable since shipping is included.

You might explore local JY's using car-part.com to find parts and go by to inspect before purchase.

Steering racks for 94-97's should be same. car-part.com will show which years are donors to your car w/ a search. Also check honda parts to see if same part number is specified for all years/trims.

good luck

Thanks a ton for all of your help, guidance and advise, really appreciate it

I am going to try thread chaser first, then maybe a tap.

Also, in my local JY through Car-Part, can get it for $55 and I can inspect too, as you have said.

Thanks again for the info, yes part number is same:

What should I look for/inspect in the used Rack/pinion? Anything I should be concerned or careful about?

Guys, I tried to repair the the threads and it's definitely beyond repair and I feel, it's pretty dangerous to fix it like this

I am gonna go to a JY tomorrow and pick up the used rack/pinion. If I couldn't find any, gonna buy a re-manufactured one and will keep you guys posted

Thanks for all the help.

Hi Guys-

So, I got this part today, it's NOT a Genuine OEM part, rather a re-manufactured one.

Boots, all lines and tie-rods arr in pretty good condition, but my question is, is this a right part?

Please see attached image with part Number/Info.

Would really appreciate if any of you can confirm about the part.

Can't really tell by the sticker? That is the "maker" of the racks for the accords ("showa")
