Default shifting out of park

1992 accord 133000 miles 2.2 auto
I noticed on this car that when you step on the brake to put car in reverse or drive you must wait about 3 seconds then you will hear a click then car will shift. Is this normal or is a relay going out? Thanks Steve

It could be a number of items. If the relay clicks and everything is normal, then it could be a component upstream on its way out.

There is a writeup in the DIY section about problems getting you car out of park and for testing the brake switch. There are other electrical tests that you can do, but you will have to download a shop manual. In the DIY section, there is a link for online manuals.

You can download one for a 91 accord (almost idenitcal to your 92) and go through the electrical tests.

Maybe a sticky brake switch?
