Temprature adjuster knob too warm or stuck cold

Temprature adjuster **** too warm or stuck cold
The temprature adjuster **** in my 1994 EX is stuck on cold if I force the heater valve under the hood allthe wayclosed but if I open it enough for the cable to open and close the valve it will only close it7/8 of the way and warm air mixes with the AC.
So my choices are: not super cold air on really hot days and a warm ride home but OK on cooler days
Or Super cold air all the time.
I needed the heater this morning and had to pull over to open the heater valve.
Any ideas on what I can do? Is it something I can adjust or do I need to replace the heater valve?

RE: Temprature adjuster **** too warm or stuck cold
Take the cable off and work it for a while. Probably some gunk in there causing it to stick. The same gunk causing it to stick closed is probably the same gunk keeping it from closing all the way. Might be a chunk of RTV or who know what. If you can pull the hoses off, you might get a better idea of what's causing it.

There is an adjustment procedure performed under the dash. I don't remember the details, but it's in the Honda shop manuals. Download one from the DIY manuals links.
