RE: 2006 Oil Change
i would even say change it no later than 3000 for the first time. tons of metal is being shaved off your motor when it is breaking in. some people change their oil after 500 miles when its new.

So officially 5k, a tad sooner won't hurt. I've added zero oil since break in (3/4 qt during break in) and now it's @ 20K. After that it's up to you if you want to go with the oil monitor or not. I would tend to trust the oil life monitor.....with a grain of salt. The only way to positively know is with a series of used oil analysis' that will show a trend.

I don't know about changing oil while breaking the motor in, but i do know that it is a good idea to change the oil about every 3000 miles. It says 5k in the owner's manual, but my shop teacher always told us that 3k is better since alot of driving is done in the city and the engine gets dirty due to the stuff in the air. Also, for $20.00 you can get a magnetic oil pan bolt. So if there is metal shavings coming off the motor, it ends up stuck to the bolt instead of running around screwing up your bearings and what not.
