Hi all,

I read a post that was pretty informative on here
and it inspired me to post my vehicle's issues...

1. Does increased rpm/no increase in speed always mean
the clutch is gone or can it be fluid is low?
(I did notice for some reason a pink transmission
fluid type looking substance leaking?)

2. My idle does not like to kick down for like 20 minutes
when I first start it up in the morning?

I have narrowed it down to 2 possible things:

- I read somewhere that on the carburetor body you
have to take off the 4 screws on the side and pull
off the unit and clean it out? Is this true?
- I figure it may have something to do with the
thermostat maybe (if there is not one in there) that
might cause it not to heat up? In the winter it rarely
went over the cold line and now in summer it
does heat up rather quickly and easily?

** Help with #1 is most important right now

Couple of ideas. If there is fluid leaking from the trans/engine mating area then I would think a rear main engine seal or front trans seal is leaking. Which would cause the clutch (by the post I'm pretty sure it is a manual) to slip....btw..the manual trans in that gen accord take regular motor oil or "special" Honda Manual Trans Fluid (MTF). The high idle is something I personally have been trying to figure out on my 89, mine only does it in the winter. For yours, start with changing the t-stat based upon what you posted?

 

I believe your 88 Accord manual Trans still has a cable to operate the clutch if so I would adjust that first. Low on transmission fluid on a manual trans will not make it slip. On the carb to troubleshoot you need to check the operation of the choke. It should be closed after you push the gas pedal to the flow, then open about a quarter inch after it starts, then fully open which is straight up and down.
