Ok, one down - one to go.

I'm not an expert with cooling fans but let me give you a high level run down on their operation.

When the car is on and running. Once the switch in the lower part of the Rad (lower pass side, I think - it has been a while) "sees" the temp climbing above a set point - both fans will cycle. If you are in North America right now, try letting the car run in the driveway with the blower motor off for around 20 minutes (it is kind of cool here)...keep an eye on the temp gauge. At some point both fans should cycle on and off.

If they do, then one "side" of the system is working....this is a good thing

Now, for the one fan to cycle on when the car is off. Again if you are in N.A., this time of year it is going to be hard to reproduce because of the cool temps. The one fan will only kick on when the car is off and the second fan switch "sees" temp above its set point. If you have a cooling system in decent shape, you are prob only going to see this in the hot summer temps after a pretty good drive (45 minutes plus).

So, are the fans coming on when you have the car on and let it idle for some time?

If you are worried that the fan isn't coming on after shutting the car off....I wouldn't right now. I've been driving my sons 89 LXi for the last two months and they haven't come on after getting home in the evening for the last month and a half.

If the temp gauge is "hanging" out at 1/3 to 1/4 up....life is good and enjoy

EDIT: if the AC system is still working, both fans will also come on when you turn on the AC.

The problem is that the fans will not come on at all I've let it idle and turned the a/c on and nothing the only way I can get them to come on is if I pull the fuel pump fuse in the cab then they both come in I'm going to change both fan switches now I thought it was maybe the thermostat not letting water thru so I took it out but still nothing

So the AC actually works....meaning the compressor clutch "kicks" on?

Anyway, I'd jump the wires to the rad fan switch (lower pass side of rad). Turn the key to on and see what happens?
