Default 94 Accord, windshield wiper issues

Strange things go on with my wipers.

If i push the lever for a single swipe, the wipers work fine.

However, if I turn the **** to turn on the wipers they don't start up right away. The length of time to normal operation seems to vary with the outside temperature. The colder it is, the longer it takes for the wipers to work.

Once the wipers do start working, I can turn them off and on without any problems.

Any thoughts? Switch? Wiper motor circuit? That mysterious controller box that seems to run everything?

Thanks.

Sounds like a relay.

I thought that there were no wiper relays in Hondas, that everything was controlled by a black box.

My first thought was the relay but when I looked in my Haynes manual, there was no mention of a wiper relay.

Am I missing something?

Should be under the hood main fuse box. If not its apart of the wiper motor.

You can remove the wiper switch and take it apart. There are copper contacts inside that you may want to clean off, then put some fresh dielectric grease in there.

The common DIY thread on top of the gen tech help forum has a link to online shop manuals. The hondatech link has a 94 shop manual that you can download. There is a relay for the intermittent wiper. You might have to start doing some electrical tests to determine the problem. You might want to unplug the wiper motor electrical connector, clean with electrical contact cleaner. Use some dielectric grease in there as well. I don't know how easy it is to access the wiper motor.

How hard is this to do? Removing the switch is easy, I'm worried about taking it apart.

There is a relay for the intermittent wiper.
That's what I was told but I couldn't find it. On page 23-286 of the manual that I downloaded it says that the ICU has a built in intermittent wiper circuit. Of course that same page shows the relay that I cannot find.

I unbolted my fusebox today and looked under it. Couldn't find a relay.

I must be looking in the wrong spot. I wish that I could find a photo and not just a line drawing.
