A/C starts cold then blows hot...how to fix??

I had my A/C recharged last year on my 1991 Accord. I thought that would fix the problem but it did not. Here is the issue.
The A/C starts out blowing cold air and it slowly gets warmer. Usually w/in 10 minutes it is just blowing air around that is not cold at all. I alos noticed if I turn the fan on half way instead of all the way on high it takes longer to heat up. If I turn it off and let it sit for about 10 - 15 minutes it will get cold again and then when I turn it back on it begins to warm up.
Could it be something like my condensor is freezing up or something along those lines?

It sounds like you may have a leak somewhere in the system. When you recharged did you check for leaks? Or did an A/C shop do the recharge? You are supposed to buy freon that has dye in it to show you any leaks. I made that mistake in my wife's 95 Accord and it is biting me in the @$$ right now. I recharged and it worked flawlesslyfor a month or so, but it is pulling the same crap again! It is doing the same thing you described. I am going to look for a can of freon with the dye in it and try to check the system this weekend. I'll let you know if it fixes mine.
By the way...how well and how long was yours working after the recharge?

Unless it has been converted from R12 to 134a. The kit I bought at AutoZone indicates they included everything for you to swap over from R12 to 134a. I don't know how true it is. I have 134a in mine, so I didn't read their instructions for the conversion.
If you have a slow leak, they may not have noticed it. Or they may not have even checked for leaks at all. If I were you, I would take the car to AutoZone and see if one of the guys there would look under the hood and tell you if you have R12 or 134a. The guy at AutoZone may even check the system pressure for you to tell you if it is in fact low on freon. Down here in Mississippi the AutoZone guys are extremely helpful. That would at least tell you if there is a leak or not.
Can you tell if the compressor is on when it starts blowing not-cold air?
