I'm not sure of the proper name (honda autoparts calls it a hood stay up), but I have just a stock on in the 96 LX. I would like to switch to a hydraulic one, would that be possible? Yes, they are called hood dampers. Tien and NRG make a kit. Fairly easy to install

Be prepared to spend around $150-$200 for a quality kit.
